Finding the Right Book
Finding Helpful Books
I don’t know about you but when I need information I look for three things: local experts (in the case your medics), online info (because it’s fast) and books about what I need to know. There’s something comforting about a book
Amazon is a great resource for finding books on what you want to know. As well as having banks of books about everything (including stroke, heart attack, cancer, asthma, brain injury, giving birth, terminal illness, eating disorders, carers it has that one feature you may find most important right now: the option of NEXT DAY delivery.
If you don’t need next day delivery, it’s worth looking for at Amazon’s second hand copies, which are usually cheaper, and considering their FREE DELIVERY option. If you go for second hand (and we often do) just remember to add the p&p for each item to the cost (i.e. a 1p book will actually cost around £2.75) to double check it really is cheaper than getting the Amazon copy on free delivery!
If you’re actually looking for fiction for your loved one, then of course Amazon have that too. If they’re up for reading but likely to find handling books tricky then a great option (if you can afford it) is a Kindle. The 3G version means they can download new books anywhere at any time while the cheaper Wifi version just needs to connect to wifi to do this.
There are other online book retailers, including Waterstones for new and Abe Books for second hand, but Amazon is utterly reliable and have great customer service, so we keep going back to them for our library.
